Our Ocean, Our Lives
A 13-episode animated series, 11 minutes an episode, about a group of teens and an ocean crew of sea creatures who unite to save their island home from environmental disaster. This is a paid project for a digital first release.
We're casting voice performers who can bring more than one character to life. If you've got range, we want to hear every voice you've got.
The Voices We're Casting
Our Ocean, Our Lives is aimed at 8 to 12 year olds. Comparable series include Avatar: The Last Airbender, Penguins of Madagascar and Inspector Gadget (not Bluey).
We are casting a dozen roles across the human family and the ocean crew. We're hoping to find three or four actors who can cover all roles between them - if such a thing is possible! All roles will be cast with performers 18 years and over, playing younger characters as needed.
Rachel
LeadA tweenaged girl from the US, recently relocated to Fiji to live with her grandmother and cousins. She is feeling alone and unsure until she discovers she can talk to Saboo. Needs range across comedy, vulnerability and growing confidence.
“Okay. An ocean full of talking animals. A new family I barely know. Sure. What a totally normal Tuesday!”
Saboo
Green Sea TurtleSelf-appointed caretaker of the reef. Maternal without being soft, protective without being smothering. Saboo becomes the translator and emotional anchor between the ocean crew and Rachel.
“I have swum this reef for forty-five years. I will not let it disappear without a fight.”
Fifi
Flying FishTrained herself through sheer stubbornness to glide 180 metres in a single leap. Thinks in military shorthand. A foot soldier who finally finds her mission and her people.
“I trained for this. Nobody hands you the sky. You take it.”
Miriam Thorne
The VillainSelf-centred billionaire building a floating island retreat off the coast. Selfish and morally out of whack, totally narcissistic and lives inside a fantasy world. Her fantasy world.
“When a fish complains, I'll stop. Until then? Keep building.”
Bubu
Rachel's GrandmotherRachel's grandmother, taking her in as she adjusts to a culture and family she doesn't yet understand. A steady, warm presence and the family's emotional centre.
“Family is not just the people who share your blood. It's the entire village.”
Meli
Rachel's CousinRachel's one friend on the island. Builds the device that amplifies her cochlear implant, unlocking her ability to speak with Saboo. Tech-minded, loyal, quietly brave.
“I didn't build it to talk to fish. I built it so you'd stop feeling like nobody could hear you.”
Skipper
SeahorseFifteen centimetres but convinced he's ten feet tall. Deep, unshakeable conviction that humans are the problem, having personally encountered most of the ocean's human debris.
“I have seen things. Things I cannot unsee.”
Starry
StarfishChatty, mobility-limited, great communicator. From his fixed position in the shallows he notices what everyone else misses.
“Nobody ever asks the guy who can't move fast what he's actually seeing. Funny thing is, I see everything.”
Okie
Day OctopusPrankster and trickster, changes colour and personality as needed. Genuinely can't take anything seriously until it's absolutely critical, and then he's exactly what the team needs.
“Relax. They can only get me if they catch me. And they'll never catch me.”
Dr Fitz
Wild CardFormer Design Engineer for the Thorne Corporation, now a passionate, frizzy-haired climate activist nobody takes seriously. The team’s unlikely hero in the final act.
“Nobody listens to the man with frizzy hair and a beaker. Fine. Let the fish do the talking.”
The Wise Whale
Sperm WhaleA Yoda-like wisdom figure, always too vast to be seen in full frame. Sperm whales hold particular cultural significance in Fiji. Minimal dialogue carries maximum weight.
“The tide does not rush. And yet, the tide arrives.”
Get Involved
Recording takes place in Sydney, an estimated three or four one-day sessions across the year, the first likely in November 2026. Sessions run like a radio play: the cast performs live together in the room rather than solo booth takes, which is why we're looking for Sydney-based actors. We record full audio for the broadcast series, and video alongside it, not for broadcast, but to capture the emotional physicality of your performance as reference for our animators.
- Submit your interest with your reel and bio.
- We'll get back to you with a link to our script library.
- Send us your self-tape
- We'll set up a shortlist and get in touch for call backs
Our Hybrid Production Approach
Our Ocean, Our Lives is made by an extensive human team, writers, composers, concept artists, editors and voice performers. We take a hybrid approach to production, the best of humanity, alongside the best of technology. That said, we use AI tools support specific parts of our animation pipeline, primarily as a construction and assembly tool for in-between frames, while every creative decision stays firmly in human hands.
